Unfolding Memories: A Semester with SCVA

As I sit here fanning myself with the floral fan we made together, the memories of my first semester flood back to me, especially the time spent with the Suwon City Volunteer Ambassadors (SCVA). This experience was more than just an extracurricular activity; it was a journey of discovery and connection.

Exploring and introducing the various facets of Suwon to international students and residents was incredibly meaningful. Among the many activities, visiting the Suwon City Art Museum and crafting handmade fans stand out the most. These moments highlighted how the everyday experiences of a local can be fascinating and novel to someone from a different cultural background. It was a poignant reminder of the beauty in the ordinary and the cultural richness we often take for granted.

Through the SCVA activities, I not only shared the vibrancy of Suwon with others but also rediscovered the city's charm and energy from a fresh perspective. Suwon, a city full of life, revealed its dynamism and warmth to me all over again.

As the summer heat intensifies, I hope everyone can find joy and make lasting memories in Korea, just as I have through my time with SCVA.

SCVA와 함께한 한 학기를 되돌아보며

이번 학기를 되돌아보면 SCVA에서의 활동이 가장 기억에 남습니다. 유학생들과 외국인 거주민들과 함께 수원의 다양한 모습들을 구경하고 소개하면서 정말 뜻깊은 시간을 보냈습니다. 특히 수원시립미술관 전시와 다 함께 만들었던 수제 부채가 가장 기억에 남습니다.

이 활동을 기획하면서 대한민국 사람으로서 바라보는 한국의 문화와 외국인의 입장에서 받는 느낌이 얼마나 다를 수 있는지 깨달았습니다. 나에게는 단순한 일상이 다른 문화권 사람들에게는 생소하고 신기한 경험이 될 수 있다는 점을 새삼 느꼈습니다. SCVA에서의 활동은 이러한 일상의 소중함을 다시 일깨워 주었습니다. 또한, 내가 사는 수원이라는 도시가 얼마나 싱그럽고 활동적인 곳인지 다시 보게 되었습니다.
