A review of a fragrant day following the scent of Suwon

On Saturday, May 18, the "2024 Suwon City International Student Regional Understanding Program," hosted by the Suwon International Exchange Center, was successfully held. It was joined by international students from universities in Suwon. The program consisted of a total of four themes: Suwon's Art, Scent of Suwon, Tradition of Suwon, and Style and Taste of Suwon.

First, we held an opening ceremony at the Suwon Paldal Cultural Center. At that time, we had an ice-breaking time prepared by SCVA. The "Scent of Suwon" team used an app called "Kahoot!" to conduct a quiz on each of the "four SCVA" for quick friendship among our teams. All the international students of "Scent of Suwon" actively participated and responded that they were satisfied with the traditional fans and mirrors delivered as a prize. Fans were especially preferred due to the hot weather.

After the opening ceremony, we toured Temporary Palace at Hwaseong Fortress with a detailed commentary from the commentator. International students who have been interested in K-drama actively participated in the tour of Temporary Palace at Hwaseong Fortress, which is also the filming location of Daejanggeum. There were also international students who were fascinated by the natural scenery around Temporary Palace at Hwaseong Fortress and the scent of trees coming out of Hanok.

After lunch, the <Scent of Suwon> team had a free time in Haenggung-dong. So we took pictures of precious memories at Self Photo Studio, where Hanbok rental is available for free. Also, the weather was so hot that we took a short break at a Hanok-themed cafe.

Next, we went on a field trip to the Samsung Innovation Museum. During the field trip, we were able to see Samsung's development process at a glance. In addition, we made full use of the travel time, which could be boring, through the "Listen to and play K-pop songs for 3 seconds" game on the moving bus.

Lastly, I moved to make Suwon-themed perfume in Haenggung-dong, the flower of the "Scent of Suwon." It was a time to look back on my image in the process of making perfume. International students also participated happily, feeling great significance in making their own special perfume.

I had a meaningful time that I would not have experienced if it were not for the <Suwon City Regional Understanding Program 1> activity. It was a very rewarding activity to be able to talk to many international students of various nationalities and learn about their hometown, and to let them know about my hometown, Suwon. It was an activity that made me think a lot about my role in a short period of time, and it was a time that I thought I should develop harder.

 수원의 향기를 따라가는 향기로운 하루에 대한 후기

 지난 5월 18일 토요일, 수원시국제교류센터가 주최한 ‘2024 수원시 유학생 지역이해 프로그램’이 성공적으로 개최되었습니다. 수원권 대학교의 외국인 유학생들과 함께했습니다. 프로그램은 ‘수원의 예술’, ‘수원의 향기’, ‘수원의 전통’, ‘수원의 멋과 맛’으로 총 4가지의 테마로 구성되었습니다. 

 먼저, 수원팔달문화센터에서 개회식을 진행하였습니다. 이 때 수원시 공공외교단(SCVA)이 준비한 아이스브래이킹 시간을 가졌습니다. 저는 <수원의 향기>팀에서 ‘카훗’이라는 앱을 이용하여 저희 팀 간에 빠른 친목을 위해 각 ‘4명의 외교단에 대한 퀴즈’를 진행했습니다. <수원의 향기>의 유학생들 모두 적극적으로 참여해주었고 상품으로 전달한 전통 부채와 거울에 만족스럽다는 반응이었습니다. 특히나 더운 날씨로 인해 부채가 큰 인기였습니다.

 개회식을 마친 후, 해설사분의 자세한 해설과 함께 화성행궁을 둘러보았습니다. ‘대장금’의 촬영지이기도 한 화성행궁을 둘러보며 그동안 K-드라마에 관심이 많던 유학생들이 적극적으로 참여해주었습니다. 또한 화성행궁 주변의 자연경관과 한옥에서 뿜어져나오는 나무향기에 매료된 유학생들도 있었습니다.

 점심 식사 후, <수원의 향기>팀은 행궁동에서 자유시간을 가졌습니다. 그래서 저희는 한복 대여가 무료로 가능한 인생네컷에서 소중한 추억을 사진으로 남겼습니다. 또한 날씨가 너무 더운 관계로 한옥을 테마로 한 카페에서 잠시 휴식시간을 가졌습니다.

 그 다음으로 삼성 이노베이션 뮤지엄으로 견학을 갔습니다. 견학을 하면서 삼성의 발전과정을 한눈에 알 수 있었습니다. 또한 이동하는 버스안에서 ‘K-POP 노래 3초 듣고 맞추기’게임을 통해 자칫 지루할 수 있는 이동 시간을 알차게 활용했습니다. 

 마지막으로 <수원의 향기> 프로그램의 꽃인 ‘행궁동 수원테마 향수 만들기’를 하러 이동했습니다. 향수를 만드는 과정에서 나 자신의 이미지에 대해서 한 번 더 돌아보게 되는 시간이었습니다. 유학생들도 자신만의 특별한 향수를 만드는 것에 의미를 크게 느끼며 즐겁게 참여했습니다. 

 <수원시 지역이해 프로그램 1회차> 활동이 아니었다면 경험하지 못했을 뜻깊은 시간을 보냈습니다. 다양한 국적의 많은 유학생들과 대화를 나누며 그들의 고향에 대해서도 알게 되었고 저의 고향인 수원에 대해서도 알릴 수 있다는 것이 정말 보람있는 활동이었습니다. 짧지 않은 시간동안 저의 역할에 대해 많은 생각을 하게 만드는 활동이었고 앞으로 더 열심히 발전해야 겠다는 생각이 드는 시간이었습니다.
