2024 Suwon International Student Local Understanding Program

On May 18, 2024, a local understanding program was held for 80 international students in Suwon, hosted by the Suwon International Exchange Center.

The program was divided into four parts: Art of Suwon, Scent of Suwon, Traditions of Suwon, and Sights and Tastes of Suwon. As a member of the Scent of Suwon team, I visited the Samsung Innovation Museum and participated in a Suwon-themed perfume making experience in Haenggung-dong.

First, the opening ceremony included an ice-breaking session with a presentation on tips for living in Suwon, which was full of small and large tips for living in Suwon as an international student.

In particular, it was very helpful to know small but important facts that can be overlooked, such as how to write polite emails and seats for pregnant women on public transportation.

Next, we went to the Samsung Innovation Center, a world-class company, for a docent explanation.

We were able to experience the history of Samsung, including the company's first steps and first cell phone.

Finally, we made our own perfume with the scent of the Suwon.

With names like 'Morning in Haenggung-dong' and 'Sunset at Banghwasuryujung', the fragrances were pleasant scents that reminded us of our memories of Suwon.

I hope that today's program will leave to participations with the scent of happy and fond memories of thier time in Suwon.

2024 수원시 유학생 지역이해 프로그램 후기

2024.05.18. 수원시 유학생 80명을 대상으로 수원시 국제 교류센터에서 주최한 지역이해 프로그램이 진행되었다. 해당 프로그램은 수원의 예술, 수원의 향기, 수원의 전통, 수원의 멋과 맛 총 4개의 세부 프로그램으로 진행되었다. 

필자는 수원의 향기의 팀원으로, 삼성 이노베이션 뮤지엄을 방문하고 행궁동에서 수원테마의 향수 만들기 체험에 참여하였다. 

가장 첫 번째 순서로, 개회식에서는 수원 생활 꿀팁 발표와 아이스브레이킹이 진행되었는데, 유학생으로서 수원에 살면서 생활에 필요한 크고 작은 조언이 가득 찬 발표였다. 특히, 공손하게 메일 쓰는 방법이나 대중교통에서 임산부 배려 좌석 등, 간과할 수 있는 작지만 중요한 사실을 알려주어 수원생활에 큰 도움이 되는 유익한 발표였다.

다음으로는, 세계적 기업 삼성 이노베이션센터에서 도슨트 설명을 들었다. 삼성의 첫 발걸음과 첫 휴대폰 등 삼성의 역사를 생생히 느낄 수 있는 시간이었다. 

마지막으로, 수원의 향기를 담은 향수를 직접 제작하였다. ‘행궁동의 아침’, ‘방화수류정의 노을’ 등의 이름을 가진 향은 수원에서의 추억을 떠올리게 하는 기분 좋은 향이었다. 오늘의 프로그램이 수원 생활 중 행복하고 좋은 추억의 향으로 오래 남길 바란다.
